Committee

Mrs F Saville
Florence joined the committee as an associate of the Cinderella Club in 1962 at the same time as her husband Ernest became a full committee. Together they took responsibility for the Thorpe Edge estate making regular house visits.

In 1974 she became a full committee member continuing the home visits and assisting Ernest who was by now the Club’s Chairman. For many years Florence also organised regular collections and distribution of toys at Christmas with the help of various churches and similar groups. She was also a regular school visitor assisting in the organisation of Christmas entertainments provided for the children by the Cinderella Club. Florence is now our longest serving Club member with over forty years of service.

Mrs M Dowgill
After leaving school, Miriam worked as a sales assistant going on to work on munitions during the war. After the war she worked in a big store, again as a sales assistant. Miriam’s husband were the owners of a Bradford driving school for twenty five years and helped raise a great deal of money for the Cinderella Club through Road Safety Rallies. After Mr Dowgill passed away, Miriam continued with the Cinderella club, something which she enjoys, as well as doing crosswords, reading and dancing.

Mrs B Gumbly
Mrs Gumbley is retired after spending most of her career as a secretary for various local companies, in the Legal Field, but mostly in Insurance. Betty started work by doing correspondence for her managers taking notes in shorthand, this before the time of Dictaphones and word processors, “whatever they are”. Betty left school at 14 and spent years in evening classes which was more-or-less demanded by her Father! However Betty says she now owes him a debt for such a successful career. Mrs Gumbley’s retirement is very full working with two other charities, as well as Bradford Cinderella Club. Her main hobbies are Grandchildren, Crosswords, Knitting and completing Jigsaw Puzzles.

Mrs M.V. Smith

Mr D Rhodes

Mr J Ford
John Ford has a specific task for Bradford Cinderella Club, that of ‘Honorary Public Relations Officer.

Mr T Pearson
Until recently, Terry was the baby of the club, not only in age, but in service joining in 1997. Ask any member of the club how long they have been involved and it is always in the double figures, twenty, thirty, even forty odd years. In single figures, Terry has a long way to go playing ‘catch-up’. Though only being involved in the short term, Terry takes a little of the responsibility for bringing the club into the 21st Century, Bradford Cinderella Club now have a Computer, as well as a Web Site.
